Caddywhompus - The Weight

Caddywhompus is a two piece from New Orleans that delve into a lot of experimental noise pop with some influences of math rock as well. This song has a really great Animal Collective-esque part starting around 2:20, and I love the massive buildup of noise and the slow pulsating scratching noises that close the song. It also leads very well into the next song on the EP, which is avaliable for free here.

Amazing album. Highly recommended.

Motorifik : Secret Things

Motorifik is the collaboration from Phil Kay (from Working For A Nuclear Free City) and French songwriter Idrisse Khelifi. This album has all that wonderful production that is normally associated with WFaNFC albums, but this time around there's more focus on a pop aesthetic (albeit with a large shoegaze influence) and less on the experimental end. The songs on this seem to have a myriad of influences; and on their myspace the "sounds like" category stretches on for miles.

When I listened through Secret Things I certainly wasn't blown away, but it was definitely an enjoyable listen. I'm sure I'll be coming back to listen to Strange Weather and Ghosts. Here's the title track from the album.

Ducktails - Art Vandelay

Ducktails is the solo project of Matt Mondanile, better known for his work as the guitarist for Real Estate. It comes off his newest LP Ducktails III: Arcade Dynamics. Despite it's name, the album has more to do with washed out surf pop than 80's video games.

Painted Palms - Water Hymn

This one comes off of Painted Palms Canopy EP, which you grab for free here. Definitely getting some Animal Collective vibes coming from this, albeit more tropical and blissful. Makes a good transition from winter into spring.

The Field : From Here We Go Sublime

Sometimes you have an album in your collection for a while that you enjoy a song or two off of and don't think much else about it. Then one day you decide to dig deeper into the context and realize that what you had is a masterpiece. This happened to me last year with this album, and since I would definitely put this in my top 10 albums of all time. The way it bridges the gap between ambient, trance, and sample based music is seriously impressive. It's also great when you recognize the samples he's using; for instance Coldplay on Silent and Lionel Richie on A Paw In My Face

Of course this kind of music isn't perfect for every mood that you're in; but when you're ready for it this album clicks into place perfectly.

Count De Money - Wired Up

Watched Enter The Void earlier, had to find some of the electronic music that was in it. I think this plays in one of the scenes in Sex, Money, Power but I'm not sure. This song makes me want to not sleep.

Lower Dens - Batman

Lower Dens bang out a version of Batman in Different Fur Studios that, at least in my opinion, is better than the original.

Two Bicycles - I'm Not Afraid To Wait For You

Looking at the weather radar it seems that most of Ohio is covered in rain showers, so I thought I'd post a song to go with today's mood. Two Bicycles is the side project of Canadian synth fiend Teen Daze. But this time around he drops the synths and picks up a guitar to create some ambient folk with great instrumentation. This track and Alone At Sea are available for free as a single to the upcoming album The Ocean on bandcamp.

Cut Copy - Corner Of The Sky

While I wasn't hugely impressed with Cut Copy's new album Zonoscope, I cannot deny the groove on this track.

Forest Swords - If Your Girl

Forest Swords is the side project of Matthew Barnes that has found quite a niche. Repetitive background drones and hazy vocals fuse with a solitary guitar, or in the case of this song the bass line, and resonant drums to make a category of music I believe they can call their own. Listening to Forest Swords makes me feel like I'm watching old worn out Super8 film at a drive in theater with a layer of fog rolling in.

Civil Civic - Run Overdrive / Fuck Youth

Civil Civic is two dudes, one from London and one from Barcelona. When they come together they create a balls to the wall mash of rock and electronica. The result is nothing less than spectacular, and will blast you with a heavy dose of distorted goodness. Sometimes you just gotta rock out to a fuzzy and heavily saturated wall of sound.

Working for a Nuclear Free City : Jojo Burger Tempest

WfaNFC's album Businessmen and Ghosts stands as one of my all time favorites, so I was kind of surprised that I missed this release last year.

Like their last album, Jojo Burger Tempest is stylistically all over the board. It will range from electronica to shoegaze to acoustic to rock, all right after each other. This 2 cd album has well over 88 minutes of music, with the 2nd cd consisting of the sprawling 33 minute title track. If you don't mind abrupt changes in genre when you're listening to a cd I can guarantee this will be an interesting ride. Plus Low is a masterpiece of an indie pop song.

Solar Bears : She Was Coloured In

Solar Bears is two film buffs from Ireland who, with their latest album, blend the past with the present. They mix modern electronica with 70's and 80's sounding synths; and they pull it off flawlessly. Throughout the album it slides anywhere from ambient, to disco, to almost M83 sounding synth anthems.

While it may seem that Solar Bears are focusing mainly on the past, the reality is their sound is really innovative. There are a ton of great songs on this album, highly recommended.

Casa del Mirto

So I got the new media player up and running but unfortunately you can't pause the song (it just starts over). I'll try and find a solution for it but in the mean time you'll just have to do this.

In other news, one of the artists that I've been giving a lot of playtime recently is Casa del Mirto. From Italy, his style is a sort of tropical lo-fi chill disco. If you head over to his bandcamp you can grab the Trust EP and Acafulcro for free.

New Villager - Rich Doors

I was listening to an old KEXP podcast I had laying around and this song jumped out at me big time. I must have not caught it the first listen, but I'm glad I did this time. This song is also on Moodgadget's The Nocturnal Suite compilation (which I recommend).

Aside from being on a couple compilations I could only find a 2 song EP of theirs. But, there is talk of a possible LP release from them later this year, but I didn't find anything definitive.

Starfucker : Reptilians

The new starfucker album just came out, and it's filled with the repetitive dreamy synth filled pop that you know and love. As with their last album most of the songs are pretty good, but there's a couple of songs that really stand out. I've had Astoria and Slow Dance on repeat most of today.

If your looking for some new clothes, Polyvinyl will give you this album for free when you buy this shirt.
